The chrome strips on the window sills can be 'pulled" off vertically. They have metal locking crimps under them that grip the door skin. Feed a thin screw driver under the strip and lift it upward. Ignore the scraping sound as they come off. Put the strip on by using a rubber mallet.

The rubber in the window channel is glued in - rip it all out. Replace using new window (bailey) channel from Clark Rubber.  Your car door will shut like a new one (no rattles).

I forget the sequence, but the windows are removed by unbolting window winding assembly. I think you also need to unbolt the window channel guide inside the door, but I cant remember if this step is necessary.

Subject: removing parts from a 1600

I've started stripping down my 1600 ready to be painted.

I just have a few quick question on how to do things, maybe you guys know some special tricks. The things I have to do are -

- get the crome strips off the window sils (outside)
- rubbers out the windows
- that little window behind the passangers windable window (no idea how to get that out)
- the windows out the doors (although thats probably in the gregorys haven't checked yet)

I think thats all for now.

I know everyone does it but I'll have to take some pictures of my progress.

thanx for you help in advance,

Rich

BTW - If I take the headlining out, do I have to get a new one or can I put the old one back in. Also do the windows have to be in or out when the headlining goes back in?
