Andy,
Yes, common problem if you don't know the life story of your 1600. If you
know whether you have an Aussie or Japanese shaft it solves the mystery.
Aussie shaft were light blue, Japanese were black and sometimes green but
shafts get painted different colours over 30 yrs. If you have a stock later
than late '69 Sedan originally with Lucas electrics, Smith's heater etc then
good chance you have an Aussie shaft and if my memory is any good the unis
are the same as an early dunnydore. If it's got a 5 speed in it then you
have now way of knowing other than by doing what the man says.
regards
Terry

Subject: Tailshaft uni's!
Dear list,
Both of my tailshaft uni's are about to fall out of my car. I went in to
get some newy's and they said what type???? They tell me there are two
types of tailshafts in 1600's and the difference is about half a mm in
universals! It just means I have to pull one out of my car before I go in.
And that's a bit of a pain. Anyone had this problem before?
Andy.
