There was a test in an old hot4's (before they stopped writing interesting
articles) about a 1200 ute that they fitted a points conversion to, it was a
crane unit from memory, it uses an optical pickup in the dizzy
compared to a brand new set of points, they dyno'ed 33hp atw compared to
26hp before- nothing to write home about but alright for an otherwise stock
a12 :)
who knows if you'd get this sort of gain on your car though! would depend
on how bad the points break down at high rpm on your car I suppose
i think using a crank angle sensor (and removing the dizzy altogether)
affords you better accuracy.... but I would suggest at a fairly high cost-
the points conversion kit from crane was already around $400 inc coil!
depends if you wanted to use a fuel/ignition computer later and have a
direct fire setup I guess. I'll stick to the s2 bluebird electronic!

Dear List,
I was wondering if anyone knew how much recon 40mm dowdraught webers( off V6
capri) are worth.
Has anyone tried using total electronic ignition (MSD) (eg without the need
of a dizzy) on a L - Series
motor, if so how do they go?
What do you fellas think of splitfire or bosh 4 sparkplugs do they make a
difference, i'd be keen to know.
thanks again
Justin
