Zac,

The wiring method for a thermo fan depends if you are going to use a relay
to power the fan (recommended for safety).

You can then wire the switch either of two ways:

1. Power to turn on circuit or

2. Ground to turn on circuit (recommended for thermo fans and most things as
the live power wires are generally much shorter and very rarely go through
the firewall).

I modify the "ground to turn on circuit" shown if you want the thermo fan to
only come on when the ignition is on. Instead of wiring battery power to Pin
86, wire an ignition ON feed from the BR or similar instead. Battery power
still goes direct to Pin 30 as that's actually the main power (read amperage
so install an inline 20 amp fuse in this wire) feed to the relay. Your Temp
switch goes exactly where the switch is shown in the diagram and if you wish
to have a light come on inside the car when the fan is running, connect 12v
power (preferably a fused source for safety) to one side of the light and
then from the other side run a wire to the Temp switch to the same side that
is connected to Pin 85, so when the switch kicks in the light comes on as it
gets earthed via the switch at the same time as the relay fires.

This is the safe way to wire a thermo fan ON indicator light inside the car
as if for some reason the wire going through the firewall shorts it doesn't
rain sparks, only the light turns on and the fan will run also as it shares
the earth with the light, but no real harm will be done as there is no
amperage drawn in these wires.

Note. The pilot light is wired exactly the same way even if you use battery
sense at Pin 86.

I found this website that has a diagram of both methods and also shows the
guts of a Bosch mini relay.

Have a read and ask questions.
