What happened was that on my way home from work last night I geared back and
went around a sweeping left corner (like I've done this road a thousand
times b4), and as I came out of the corner I got stuck back into the
throttle ~ 80kph or so, but hit a little stream of water running across the
otherwise dry road. The boost came straight back on and before I knew it
the back of the car overtook the front ! Only one lane each way and not a
lot of room to move, tried correcting into the skid but the ol' girl
continued on her merry way, the rear offside of the car slammed into an
emabankment, spun me around around a few times, hitting the front right on
the opposite embankment. Lucky there was no cars coming.
Damage wise the rear right guard, tail light panel and bumper are dead. The
front right guard and bumper pushed in a bit - not really that bad. Stuffed
one mag. The engine crossmember bolts tore a majority of the way through
the crossmember on the front left, so the left wheel is way out of
alignment - again not too a hard fix, but the bad bit is that it appears the
chassis is twisted as both the front and rear screens popped loose. Fixed
the rear screen, but the front 'A' pillars are out of square and the
windscreen doesn't fit no more !
I 'dink she stuffed. Oh well, least I'm O.K. I was just going too hard for
the road conditions. Just inconvenient at the moment, I've been using the
trailer on the 1600 to move the house stuff into storage, and I'm trying to
save all my spare cash for the new house we're building.
All the interior is A1, the remaining panels straight, engine / driveline /
exhaust untouched, all accessories ok. I managed to cruise her home and had
a good look at her today. Only engineered a month ago!
So I'm thinking I'll either get another 1600 and transplant everything, or
go for a neat series III TRX bluebird (cheaper) and throw the FJ in that,
and sell the rest.
I've got your stuff here in a box Terry, I'll contact you on the phone about
a time, as I won't be far from home if I'm not at home, just moving more
stuff !
