Where did you get the idea that you need a cat convertor when simply running 
unleaded on your L-series? I have never heard of such law. The emissions laws 
apply to newer cars or cars being engineered with an unleaded engine in it. I 
think that unleaded petrol would be cleaner than leaded anyway.
Plus I'm pretty sure these days you can buy catalytic convertors that are not 
restrictive.
