okay, i have a question or more a topic that i would like to hear peoples opinions on...

i have an FJ20DET 1600.  currently i am running a R180 3.9:1 open diff.
i am about to go and get this welded up so that i have some sort of traction.
but in my shed i have a couple more diffs one being an R180 3.354:1 open.

has anybody got some ideas as to which would be better to use. i drive it
to work and back don't do any highway driving and if i did i don't care about the
higher revs the 3.9 produces at cruising speeds. but i read a week or so ago on
the list someone mention that the lower ratios (3.5, etc) were a better diff for the
FJ20.  why is this? is it due to the torque band or holding the turbo on boost for
longer in each gear?
i will be taking the 1600 down to the motorplex for some drags to keep my speed
addiction satisfied so what ratio would be more suited?  and would i be correct
in saying the 3.9:1 would be a better ratio for circuit racing/hillclimbs etc.as i would
ideally like to get into that.  or should i go shopping for 4.44 or 4.85....?
