D+ on the Alternator is the correct terminal for the charge light. The D+ wire does have to be connected for the reg to operate correctly - A Bosch will charge without this wire but it's output is erratic (amps wise) and also the voltage fluctuates. I cant see how you wired it incorrectly though unless you didn't connect the D+ to the white/red wire on the loom. I new that Hitachi wouldn't fire without the charge circuit connected but there was a few posts on the topic last week so I test my Bosch and found it to be dodgy without the light connected - very interesting.

I had it connected like that before and the charge light was on. turned out it was not charging. then I took it out and the guy that tested it told me I had had it wired incorrectly. He said the charge light needed to be connected to make the alternator charge (somehow). I then connected the charge light (white/red) to one of the spade terminals on the alt (think this was D+). now the charge light isn't on but perhaps the alternator is just worn out (as per slightly glowing CHG at night). cheers, zac ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry Rudd <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2001 9:02 PM Subject: RE: Bosch alternator wiring > Zac, > > It's unlikely that your wiring is wrong on a Bosch alternator, they are so > simple to hook up. > > The Bat wire is the thick White one > The Ind wire is the small Yellow one > The Earth is Black > > make sure the Hitachi voltage reg plug is disconnected (usually near stock > battery position on the tower) and you splice the Ind wire (yellow) from the > alternator into the loom at the old reg plug (White/Red trace) and that's it > done.
