The spring rates of rear coil overs would need to
be substantially lower than those in the standard location
because they are located further out from the trailing arm fulcrum, but the
loading of the body will be all focussed on the top shocker mount rather than
spread around the spring top as in the original location. Hence the need
to beef up the shocker tower by heaps. The other problem is if
you have rear discs, you run out of room for the coil overs and the disc
calipers to fit without running into each other during some part of the
suspension travel.
