Get a tape merusie and what the distance from the strut lower perch,to the base where it bolts on to the bottom arm.
If they are 240KGT coupe you will not need a very long ruler.

I was told by the previous owner they were 240K struts and it makes sense to me as they are the twin spot sumitono calipers. What could be the problem then?
cheers,

If you have 240K struts and your car sits on the bump stops you have cut down /or fitted the wrong springs.
Or you dont have 240K struts which is probley more the case why you are sitting on the rubbers with no travel with 240K springs lowed fitted.
The 240K coupe has the lowest strut base, but not the 4 door.

yeah i could do that, but the front suspension is so bloody hard that i
want to do something that will give me a less rough ride, but hopefully
better street handling. I would have thought that a front end that is really
stiff and without any travel would have handled well, but in fact for a road
car it is bloody annoying! I want the front end to be stiff, but not so much
that there is no travel because it is hell on the street!
So, i want to know - if i put some full progressive king springs in, will
i achieve this? Or should i put some gas shocks in instead/first?
any ideas or reccomendations would be good.

Cheers,
Mark.

Subject: front suspension

Hi listers,

My front suspension has virtually no travel at all and it is really
starting to shit me. It is lowered so my guess is the springs have been
cut
at some stage :( . My question is would replacing just the springs
improve
the travel and make my car handle better? or is it a combination of
springs
and shocks i need to improve it? i know the best option is getting both
springs and some gas shocks, but i can't afford both right now. by the
way
the car is a 1600 and i have 240K struts in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks heaps,

Mark.
