kris,

just about every engine rebuilder / mechanic has their theories about LRP.
it's been on the market for a while now and i don't really think that there
has been any outstanding evidence that suggests engine wear has increased by
using LRP. remember that the lead component in super fuel was only required
to lubricate the 'soft' valve seats that were in use until the early-mid
eighties. this lead component has simply been replaced by phosphorus,
another lubricating adgent that is far less detrimental to the environment.
it still has an octane rating of 96 (ish) and should not affect the
performance of internal combustion.

you'll probably find that nearly everbody on this list uses 98 RON octane
optimax / ultimate so they can run higher static compression and more
ignition timing - especially in modified turbo EFI cars.

however unless your engine is not 'pinging' in its current set-up, there is
no need to upgrade from standard ULP or LRP. (the higher the octane of fuel
causes it to burn slower, therefore reducing the risk of detonation and
allowing higher combustion temperatures).

i hope this helps.

dunc.
