Last year I picked up an unregistered, one owner '72 1600 Auto with 93K miles on it, with service books to prove it, and NO rust - for $600.  The elderly seller was prepared to take "ONO" but I couldn't haggle on such a gem.   I resprayed the outer surfaces, put new rubber bushes in the front end and idler arm, a new windscreen in it, fitted the head back on it was in the boot - blown head gasket), cleaned the seats and vacuumed the carpets. Even the tyres were near new, quality radials and the battery was nearly new.  It still has the selling dealer's sticker on the back window  (Globe Motors in Sydney).   All up it owed me about $1400 registered and insured for 12 months - and it looks and runs like brand new.  Its got the fastest spinning starter motor I've come across, hit the key and the engine is running instantly.   My son bought it off me and gave it to his fianc�e, as I was under severe pressure from my wife to sell it - (she has no sense of the status of having fine cars littering the yard).  My son's fianc�e loves it.  I would dearly love to get it back to "improve" it but she wont give it up.
