Paul, The common smell that you experience when following an ULP vehicle is Hydrogen Sulphide (also known as rotten egg gas) and the only way to escape it is change lanes, turn off or overtake them as with a climatic controlled car or even with 4 by 100 air conditioning (ala 1600) it's not very pleasant to say the least. It is produced from various additives in ULP and the condition of the cat converter etc. and it gets a bit of press comment from time to time i.e. claims and counter claims of whether it's god, bad or ugly for us to inhale. If you're interested in an article about what's in fuel and what's not here is a link to a good read: http://www.nexusmagazine.com/ulp1.html
I run Optimax in my 1600 without a cat and sometimes it smells like a two stroke road racer or a go cart engine especially from a cold start in the morning, but most other times it doesn't smell at all - beats me why and it doesn't seem to happen when I'm on Vortex or BP Ultimate only Optimax - one wonders then what's in Optimax? regards Terry (I love the smell of toluene in the morning) -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Paul Stanley Sent: Saturday, 3 August 2002 11:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: What Fuel??? I run Premium but I give the 200B a splash of regular everynow and then... I think it pings a bit at low revs. Did anyone catch the news item about shonky fuel? The poor quality and downtuned new cars means less performance, more engine wear and more pollution. That what happens when greed gets in the way of technology. Slightly on the subject.... what is that smell that cars make when they are given "herbs" or a lot of throttle? It reminds me of hot metal like you would smell coming off a metal lathe...
