Thanks Steve, that clears things up for me. For that type of linkage we used to replace some of the bits with an optional bunch of bits that came in a kit (expensive from memory) that you could get from a Datsun dealer. They're probably NLA these days but the improvement to the monkey motion linkage was very noticeable. After 3 rallies with the stock stuff, the co-driver was in a better position to change gears for you.
