Dave, When you get the box back out, measure the carrier holder you've got in there. I'm not Zed knowledgeable but if this was a L4 then the carrier is likely to be ~2" overall, the shorter carrier is around 1.5" overall, it doesn't sound much but it makes all the difference.
Have you still got the 240Z pressure plate? If so, then measure the height from the front face to the fingers where the bearing contacts on both plates. The way that I do this is to place them face down on a bench and measure from the bench surface through the hole in the fingers. If there is a difference then that's the difference in carrier holders you're off to the wreckers to find, and if there is NO difference in this height, then the bearing carrier length isn't the problem. Be very meticulous to note how you put it together last time, especially the orientation of the clutch plate, even if it is wrong then sh*t happens, but you are in a far better position to fix a problem when you know for sure what is the cause, otherwise you're flying blind and just as likely to have the same thing happen again, and then you will not be a happy chappie. Also, from your previous posts I recall that you had trouble locating the box correctly. A gearbox should fully engage the clutch spine and locate right up flush with the block, so if you can't get it to do this then I'd suggest you determine why it is so before you start bolting it up. If you find that you do need the shorter carrier type, I'd start with Datsuns with Japanese clutches fitted, eg 240K/C210 Skyline/R30/240C etc. as most Aussie clutches use the longer carrier eg Stanza/200B/Bluebird and 180B's are a mixture - and 180B's are plentiful in yards so you might be lucky with them. I hope it goes well for you this time and give us a shout if you need more help. regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of David Andrews Sent: Friday, 30 August 2002 1:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: 240Z clutch backwards?!?! Thanks for that guys. Makes sense that the carrier thingo is too long. FYI I used the pressure plate it got with the L28 which I assume (didn't say) is from the L28, however I used the L24/standard 240Z 5-speed carrier thingo. That'd do it. So I'll just need a shorter carrier bearing or put on my old pressure plate?
