Rohan,

Most of us have used the Urvan remote reservoir and the caps, very rarely
are the actual cylinders used. It still beats me how you get a normal clutch
master cylinder between the manifold and the bulk head, even if I could get
the engine in with the clutch cylinder already in place, the only way I'd
ever get it out to replace is to cut it out, and then I'd have to unbolt the
engine and lift it to get a new one in there, but that's not an option
either as there is about enough room between the box and the tunnel to fit a
bees whatsit in there too. I use a SSS kit too, but it is very early version
and it uses stock 1600 engine mounts, may be the later ones use the pretty
DR30 mounts?

One minor thing in your post that's incorrect is that the stock 180B doesn't
have a 7/8" brake master cylinder, the Japanese cylinder is 3/4" which
incidentally is the same as the stock 1600. 13/16" is off Sunny, 7/8" is off
either early Zeds, 240K/C210 and a few others. These can be tricky if used
with the 5" Bendix 180B/B210/B310 boosters, as a little rubber doover in the
guts of the booster can somehow get dislodged and it then causes all sorts
of problems. The Urvan caps fit on most of the Japanese twin brake and even
most the removable reservoir Japanese clutch master cylinders irrespective
of bore size.

good luck with it, remember the golden rule with conversions - measure
twice, cut once (-:

regards
Terry

I guess the engine sits in slightly different positions depending on the
design of the engine mounts, some fj's seem to be mounted further back than
others. This would only affect the clutch resevoir not brake resevoir
positions i think.
Dave, the 180b booster and nabco cylinder does fit without the resevoirs
touching the manifold but only just and wouldn't pass engineers certificate
on this car, maybe your engine sits a little higher than this one. It does
have a custom sump so maybe it is able to sit lower.
I have looked into the urvan master(thanks Terry) and have decided that the
best option would be to find some of the resevoir caps off one and use them
on a 180b 7/8" bore cylinder. That way I can mount resevoirs remotely and
easily clear manifold. Also the urvan cylinder is only 20.64mm(from memory
looking at book) which I don't think will have as good a displacement of
fluid for the brake setup i have.

Dave,
You must nearly have the short intake runner version of the FJ engine or
something I don't know about. Mine is a long runner DR30 version, and with
that one if you can get a normal clutch reservoir in there it beats me how.

Rohan
I dont run a remote resevoir on my FJ 1600, you can get them in without
having to run one...
most people dont but it can be done. Mines using a datsun booster and
resevoir.
Cheers
Dave
