Robyn,
Pinging is the condition that precedes detonation and is mainly caused by
the air/fuel mixture igniting a little too soon (in terms of degrees) before TDC
compression - it sounds like someone tapping spoons on your rocker cover.
To avoid, overall advance, increase cam duration which reduces compression
pressure, raise octane of the fuel, reduce boost if forced
induction.
regards
Terry

Subject: pinging for the mechanically challengedI was going to call it "pinging for dummies" but after the recent posts decided against it... Anyhow, could someone please explain how to recognise pinging...
Thanks
Robyn
