hi,   what u do is  just very slowly undo  a  flare nut fitting , just till
the gas starts to escape,  then undo it a little more, then leave it to  all
escape.
 when there is no more gas escaping , undo it  slowly   till the fitting
comes of.( some times  there  still might be some gas left  ,  as u undo it,
if there is,  just wait till the noise stops , then repeat the  process.)

i  THINK that if it has been filled with the newer gas ( r134a) it should be
okay to let it  vent out to the atmosphere, cause its  more ozone friendly.

just do the job in ya back yard , or  go  out some where ( out
bush,unpopulated) and let the gas out ,  but wait 15 mins till all the gas
has disperesed.
