Kris,

I just remembered that the dodgy gauge in the 1600 SSS cluster is the clock and you'll never get a genuine replacement for the original one in Aus, may be in the US. The guts out of an Aussie Jeco clock (GL dash) will fit but even these are pretty much past their use by date - I've only got one left that works and they are shitty as the voltage regulators were dreadful (goes fast and slow depending on battery voltage - yuk, but it looks the part). You may be able to get the face changed from a 2" quartz clock (VDO etc) but it's worth checking out the condition of the original clock before you buy if you can find a dash for sale.

regards
Terry

Subject: 1600 SSS dash.

Hi all,
        I`m currently chasing a 1600SSS dash and loom and have a few questions;
1, Are there any tell tale signs of any problems?
[Terry Rudd] If it looks good it usually works OK - individual gauges were very robust

2, Does the loom connect straight up to a `70 1600?
[Terry Rudd] Yes in most of the Japanese production models, No in the Aus models but easy to wire in yourself. The tacho is a bit tricky if you don't know how it works but plenty of articles around here to help you. It's useful if the oil sender comes with it  but you can use a 240K or 180B SSS oil pressure sender, 200B SSS senders are not the same as VDO isn't compatible with Niles. Standard Niles temp sender is the same as the 1600 and the fuel sender is also the same unit.

3, What would the going rate be to buy this?
[Terry Rudd] You can buy a complete 1600 cheaper than a good SSS dash, haven't seen one advertised for a while, there were a couple offered last year  in the $400 - $500 range and were snapped very quickly.

4, Will it even fit into a `70 model 1600?
[Terry Rudd] The later model SSS fits straight into the round 70+ dash, the early SSS dash fits 69 strip speedo dash

Any info would be appriecated,

  Kris.
