Andrew,

You should check the volume of the W53 head - there is a 45cc version of the
L20B engine in Japan but most Oz ones were on the L16 A10 Stanza engine. I
guess that a good head machinist could take some material out of a W53
head - it's not something that I've ever thought about or wanted to do as
compression is everything to producing cheap power in a NA engine as long as
the fuel and spark are controlled, a lot easier to do in my heyday as we had
good quality 100 octane. A 66 degree rally cam will do the job nicely with
98 octane and 10:1 and it isn't all that wild and it's very streetable with
even a 3.7 diff in a 1600, very friendly with a 3.9 or 4.1. I'm surprised it
took 4 heads to find a ULP compatible one, I guess Ozdat folk are grabbing
them.

regards
Terry

Terry,

Thanks for that. I pulled 4 heads today at the local pickapart - 2 A87 and
2 W53 - before finding one with stainless (ULP capable) valve seats.

Can a A87 be made out of a W53 by removing 2cc from the chamber?? If so,
what area should the material be taken from? Im thinking I only want a
nice streetable L18SS-esque kind of engine - everything more mild than
wild...

Thanks for the help,

Andrew
