Thomas, I believe the cracks are caused by the constant heat related presssure changes inside the float. This sort of inflates and deflates it like a balloon (well not visibly but you get the idea) which eventually causes stress fractures. I had exactly the same problem on my 710 SSS. I ordered new floats from Nissan which turned out to be plastic rather than brass so the problem should never happen again.
