Well after a quick rummage through a shed of fans at the auto recyclers I think I have found something that will my fit my 1600/FJ20T - a 12" electric fan with a depth of ~6.5cm and amazingly for an OEM the fan blade is reversible so with a polarity swap will run in front of the radiator. After examining numerous, fans some with absolutely monster-sized shroud assemblies, it was a relief to find something this compact - and it's all Mr Nissan from radiator to gearbox since the donor vehicle is an N10 Datsun/Pulsar. Will need some fiddling (grinding off some brackets and drilling some bolt holes) but fits quite nicely thank you.

I had spent several nights this week test-fitting the old electic fan 'cos I was convinced if it was in there before I could make it go back with the N13 radiator..only just noticed that the Hyundai radiator coming out was a very shallow single-core...no wonder there's a little less room with the twin-core newie.

Is there any harm in running reversed polarity? i.e. any difference in the motors between these older fans and new Davies Craig type which are advertised as polarity reversible?
