Yea I did the same

So much faster to get - and therefore cheaper. I didn't think there were two types of licenses here. Go SA :)

Yous guys are kind of lucky, Over here in the UK if you pass you test in
an automatic thats is all you can drive unless you resit the driving
test, but if you pass in a manual you can drive both

Tom,
In Perth you have the choice.
E-Class Any motor car with automatic transmission.
A-Class Any motor car equipt to seat 10 or less adult persons including
driver.
And No You Can't drive a manual with only a E-Class licence.

I hope this sorts out all the questions,
P.S You can not get a cheap upgrade to A-Class after 12 months over here
in Perth, you need to resit your test in a car with manual transmission.

Paul,

I didn't even know you were supposed to have a separate license for
driving a manual, so good thing I just bought an auto :)

AFAIK you don't have to put your foot on the clutch at lights - I was
told not to because it prematurely wears the spigot bearing.

at

you dont do anything stupid they normally let you off...

I never actually read the road rules specific to driving manuals.

Should I

read up or are there just some basic pointers I should keep in mind,

because

I want to go get my manual license. Something about chaging gears

too

late,

or during a corner? It's not that easy in my Datto because if you

try and

make a turn in 3rd you havent got enough power, and if you change

back to

second before the turn you have to be doing about 30... so I guess

I'll be

corning either really fast or really slow for the test.

I am also told that when you are stopped at lights etc you should be

in

first gear with the clutch in... I can do that.
