Probably wouldnt help much for the handheld laser guns which QLD police seem to like so much. If I understand radar detectors correctly, they only pick up radio waves (ie car mounted radars), not light waves.

Radar detector detectors try to detect that slightly higher frequency to see if you have a radar detector, but in turn produce another slightly higher frequency.
