Sorry for delayed response, I'm in FNQ at present and the phone lines arent too good in some places to keep in touch. ( And I am supposed to be on holidays.) Yes the bigger contact patch is desirable for better steering and braking, as long as your rubber is pointing in the right direction all the time. Excessive lowering and steering box flex both work against good steering geometery and amplify any of their faults through the better gripping rubber.
