Ballast resistor is only used on the +ve side of the coil - but only (normally) with
points based ign system. L-Jet rpm sense is from -ve side of coil, so should be no
problem. L6 L-Jet systems (R30, 280ZX) used a HEI system with no ballast
resistor and the rpm was sensed from coil -ve.

I'm a bit surprised that the Bluebird electronic ign has a ballast resistor - but I
know bugger all about Bluebirds (and thinking about it, the early Chrysler EI
systems had a ballast resistor).
