1984 Manual Hatchback MR30' Skylines with rear disks used 4.1 R180's. Auto
MR30's would have been fitted with 3.9 R180's. The diff and the
driveshafts from either bolt into the the 1600 (But note my last para
below).

If you like a bit of work to get big, beefy, rear disc brakes, the MR/HR30
trailing arms (with the big discs) bolt on to the 1600 cross member giving a
slightly wider track. The real work starts where you have to use a
coil/shocker unit to replace the separate 1600 spring and shocker, or insert
a 1600 spring holder in the Skyline trailing arm and lower the shocker
mounting point on the trailing arms - big engineering jobs. These days its
easier to use R31 disc conversions on the 1600 trailing arms.

HR30's (not originally sold in Aus but they now exist here.) have the same
R180 diffs but are fitted with CV type driveshafts that have 6 bolt outer
flanges at the axle, so they need to be altered if you are using the 1600
trailing arms. I have only studied one HR30 (the original Skyline turbo) -
a low Kms import fitted with a 6 cyl L20A Turbo. I got my 1600SSS a bolt
in (no floor cutting) 5 speed gearbox from it and I scored the rear trailing
arms just for interest - (still have them if anyone is interested). I
assume the beefier rear driveshafts were to cope with the bigger power.
