I have
had ACL rings supplied in kits for the 6 engines (2 x A14 1 x A12
, 1 supercharged CG13 Micra, 1 L20B and one L16)I have built this
year.
Every
one has had problems with excessive ring gaps. On contacting
the Mahle ring expert at ACL (Rudi Samperi) he tells me 0.022"
gap is OK for the top ring and 0.028" for the second ring on a 77mm A14
bore.
At the
se figures the rings are worn out and excessive ring gaps allow lots of blow by
under load.
When
pressed he addmitted the gaps are gofr idiots who dont check ring gaps when
building engines.
From
now on I will only use Hastings or Perfect Seal file fit rings. ACL are too
rough.

Hastings Chrome Molly get my stamp of approval - I've never had a problem
with them over many years of thrashing Datto engines.
ACL
have also been good to me over the years but they are pricey for me
personally to buy as I get trade discount at Repco and they stock Hastings
(Made in US of A but we wont hold that against them).
