Add "-vv" to your memcached command line and it will log all incoming
requests and outgoing responses (minus the payloads) to standard
error, which you can redirect or pipe as you see fit.

Correct, per request… I don’t need the actual data passed back and
forth, but key requested, hit or miss, bytes transferred… somewhat
like what you might see in an apache access_log.

Does anyone know of a good way to log memcached transaction data
(hits, misses, bytes transferred etc… to a local file - or anywhere
really)? I know I can modify my client to save stuff off, but I was
really hoping for a flag at start up (eg. memcached --log-file /var/
log/memcached/access-log)
You mean per-request? Is the cumulative stats
information not enough for you?
