"It's cool!". Ruby community loves cool stuff.

Seriously, 1.9 won't be ready for production this X-mas. Focused on
m17n, it has most of open bugs
against related features. Focused on performance, it has performance
regressions. Have a glance at
ruby-core topics or tracker.

I know a few people who write custom network protocols using
EventMachine and they use 1.9 AFAIK because
of fibers. In that domain, it's a killer feature to have. For web
apps, Rubinius with MVM that promises shared memory and Erlang style
message passing between applications is way more important.

So 1.9 is for X-mas... what X-mas? Nobody knows, it's just like Perl
6. It's for X-mas. 2010 or 2011? Hopefully 2012.
