I know this guy who has used Ripper to get complete lexes from raw Ruby source. 
It calls the same parser as Ruby itself, so it will definitely be maintained. 
(No RubyInline ramifications, either...)

He also checks if RubyNode or Ripper are available and uses each one. Not 
exactly the same, but is Ripper closer to ParseTree than RubyNode was? That was 
essentially Ruby Assembler, after a bit of optimization...
