Why the fascination? Because it has the POTENTIAL to be a smog free fuel, renewable and, a clean burning fuel. The downside, of course, is that it takes more energy to generate H2 that it produces. It is more expensive than gasoline or diesel but the possibilities are huge. I envision a breakthrough in 10-20 years that will make it commercially viable.
