If its only the boots gone bad, replace the boots now. Your axles will
likely run on for a long time if the boots are on ly starting to go and the
axles are not badly worn. Otherwise, try to find axles from a junker, and
it may be worthwhile to put new boots on them while they are out.

rebuilt rear half axles for the W123 series. I am now facing the task of
replacing both rear halves on my 85 300TD Wagon. Until I am able to locate
a good used set, there a stop gap measure? Is there a silicone or rubber
spray I can use to seal the CV boots? What say you? Anyone have a good set
lying around?
