Dieselvolk, Yesterday my wagon's rear really started to sag, was down to 11 inches (star to fender lip) after just a couple hours. When I started the engine, it came up a bit and then stopped, would not reach 12.75 inches.
So, last night I crawled under to take a look-see, and found that I needed to adjust the linkage because the control valve lever was being held in the 'Lower' position. Well, that little linkage has pretty much reached the end of its life; only one side adjusts, the other end is frozen, and I've got it at the limit of possible adjustment and the lever is still being held too far in the 'L' direction. I probably will need to loosen the lever on the shaft and move that to get back into the adjustable range of the linkage, but I'd really like to find a good used one. Also, the leaking-down syndrome is really bugging me. I've rebuilt two of these valves now, and gotten the same result each time. What am I doing wrong?? Are these suckers really impossible to fix? I still haven't had time to experiment with the 2nd valve I have - probably will dive into that tonight. My present theory is that the disc-to-face clearance is the issue, and is allowing fluid to go around the disc to the return line. If anyone here knows the secret to fixing these things, I'm all ears! Very respectfully, /s/ LCDR Meade M.
