Yep, diesel shines in a long trip, and hybrid is totally useless on the freeway unless you are braking on hills or in traffic. The hybrid's advantage is in stop and go traffic, where braking energy goes into the battery instead of heating up the brake disks, and the engine can be shut off at stoplights and restarted by the electric drive motor.
