Well, we made up for it by buying a stadium for the Astros (originally named ENRON Field, now named Minute Maid Park), and a new place for the Rockets to play. They did lease the old Compaq Center (which was a little old, but perfectly adequate to watch a bunch of guys run around in their underwear) to a church that now fills it on Sunday mornings. <SIGH>

We got ripped off!!!! We only paid 500 million for our baseball stadium. You've heard of it, the one the voters said no to and the legislature built anyway (and while we're stabbing political parties remember Washington is overwhelmingly run by Democrats). The "owner" of the football stadium, perhaps you've heard of Paul Allen, (or his buddy Bill Gates) actually paid for the election to build the football stadium. It's only rumor that he used pocket change. Here in Houston "we" built a light rail line that runs 7 miles from downtown Houston out through the Texas Medical Center, and just past the Astrodome (which is located right next to the $300MM Reliant Stadium...built by the taxpayers for the Houston Texans).
