Yup. The former mayor retired a millionaire. On a mayor's salary. Left the city in a wonderful condition. Go figure.

Seattle isn't the only place where the political sluts have pulled
the wool over the eyes of the gullible voters.... Here in Houston
"we" built a light rail line that runs 7 miles from downtown
Houston out through the Texas Medical Center, and just past the
Astrodome (which is located right next to the $300MM Reliant
Stadium...built by the taxpayers for the Houston Texans). It runs
down the middle of Main Street, and there have been over 90
accidents with cars in the less than one year it has been
running. It also runs down the middle of the Texas Medical Center
so you have two sets of train tracks between the hospitals and the
buildings with the doctors' offices and the clinics. Of course,
you can only cross the street at "designated crossing points" so
folks have to walk the long way around to get from the clinic to
the hospital. Some of the facilities put "skywalks" across the
street so people wouldn't have to cross at street level. And to
add insult to injury, to boost ridership, Metro cut the number of
bus routes along the train route. And OBTW...they also got caught
    padding ridership reports. /rant

I was specifically speaking of the trolley with the MILLION
DOLLAR EACH cars that runs from Freighthouse Square, a
derelict shopping area to 9th and Commerce. The cars were
built in IIRC Sweden. All spare parts must be ordered from
there. That's a cost effective move. Yes, there is a bus
station along the route, and the amtrak station near the
Square. It also runs past UW Tacoma. Unfortunately nobody but
the bums ride it. It did exceed ridership expectations though.
After it was in service for a few months the transit folks
declared it a winner in that the ridership was almost double
the expectations. Unfortunately, someone ask what the exact
numbers were and it was revealed that noone actually counted
riders. The operators simply "guessed" at the number of people
on board. Now that's a case of running a tight ship!
And guess what, the busses still drive right past there. Ken
