You need to find a local guy with a sawmill and get those trees cut into lumber, which is worth quite a fortune. He would probably pay you a fair amount for the standing timber. If I was closer I would be all over that, if you can find a guy to get it sawed up I might even come get it at some point if you had a place to stack and dry it. I had a small tree cut up last summer, got several nice boards from it, and some amazingly-shaped branches, all of which are to become a table at some point when I get a good shop space going. I figure that lumber I got, maybe 100bd ft, is worth $500 or $600. (I took the trunk to an Amish guy to saw it up 6/4, he didn't charge me much, and I ended up buying about 1200 bd ft of cherry from him for $1/bd ft. He had a bunch of biggish cherry logs laying around, so I had him cut them 6/4 for me. Most of the boards are at least 8-10" wide. All that is destined for some nice furniture.)
So a bigger walnut tree would bring lots lots more. A lot of that is getting bought up by Chinese and shipped out these days. --R Wonko the Sane wrote: > These are some really large trees.
