Why not use the rental from the local auto place? For the W123 the only
special tool is the ball joint press and I was able to use the Autozone
service kit to do the job (and mine were welded in by some rocket
scientist). NAPA has one for under $20 that *appears* to be the same as
the Hazet/MBZ tool. Other than that, for the  taperj oints you can just
use two hammers against each side of the joint at the same time to pop
