The bikes we are discussing - the Honda CB750s were all in line 4 with
attached 5 speed manual transmissions.

OK, now I am very confused.  Don's bike appears to have a transverse
inline four. (Is "transverse" the right terminology when describing
bike engines, meaning the crank is perpendicular to the frame?)  Rolf
says he prefers the V4s to the 4s.  But in the Craigslist post that
started the thread, the heads look different, like it could be a
V4---there's clearly two "lobes" to the head casting even though
there's only one finned cylinder-containing section of the block
visible on each side of the motor.  Is that an inline motor as well or
a very-narrow-angle V4?
