Maybe he was of a mind that he was providing a service? his snot
nose kid loves to visit the chickens. She wanders the yard (hers and
mine) barefoot. I have pointed out that she should take care not to
step in the freshly posted fertilizer the girls leave about. No clue
for mom, dad, or kid. He works for M$ and has the social skills of a
hyena.

IT may not be such a huge loss though. The youngest may have been a
cock. Very beautiful golden wyandotte, but I think she was getting
spurs and tail was too pretty. Older gal was almost all done
providing eggs. Now I need to wait until spring for a new batch of
babies. In the meanwhile I shall continue my war against the
squirrels inhabiting his trees. These fuzzy guerillas commit
commando raids on my coop and gobble up food.

I have yet to have a verified kill, but the pellets do cause them to
think about further raids. Might need to contact the Colombians
about taking out these little FARC rats.
