I suspect that there is more to this story.

Some municipalities have a strict limit on the number of cars you have and
if you exceed the limit, they will haul them away and crush them at your
expense after a reasonable number of warnings are sent to you.

Story in Raleigh paper last week:  classic car enthusiast/mechanic had seven
restored, "classic" cars.  At his garage, he got a call from a friend
asking, "Where you takin' the '73 Chevvy?"  Answer, "Nowhere, whaddaya
mean?"  Friend said, "Just saw it go past here on a truck."  Suspicious, the
owner/mechanic rushed to auto salvage yard nearby.  They had already crushed
his restored, showroom-condition '73 Chevvy with 59 kmi and his equally
restored '60's Chrysler!

Oughta hang the thief AND the salvage yard guy!
