The presence of the yellowcake AND its removal was well covered by the press, including the massive contamination in the area resulting from the Iraqis (who didn't know what it was) dumping the stuff out of drums and using the drums to catch rainwater for drinking, in the process giving them some rather nasty potential future health problems.
Never underestimate the dishonesty of the extreme right wing press. All yellowcake shipments are highly secure, it's outright toxic along with radioactive enough to cause serious health problems, so it's always handled rather tightly. There is no non-government trafficing, either, as only governments or their contract agents do anything with it (namely enrich it for use in reactors or weapons). That particular stuff has been sitting around since the 80s, and is NOT a nuclear weapon, simply highly concentrated unenriched uranium compounds (don't remember exactly what, it's not raw ore). It has to be converted to uranium hexafluoride and "enriched" to remove the non- radioactive isotope to be used as a weapon, and Iraq gave up on that a long, long time ago.
