No such thing as an elected official that won't raise taxes...
I very nearly accidentally got myself elected mayor one time. Where I used to
live 2 guys had just been passing the mayorship back and forth for decades. I
joked I ought to run on a "How could I be worse?" platform.
Well one of my friends ran with it. First I heard was when a reporter showed up
at my house. It seems my friend had made up posters (he was a graphic artist,
he ended up using the campaign material in his portfolio, good investment for
him) and literally blanketed the city with 'em suggesting me as a write in
candidate.
I got something like 20% of the vote which pushed the other two to like 40% and
35%, there were various other "Donald Duck" type write ins that got the rest. I
never made a campaign appearance or anything although I did write an editorial
for the local paper pointing out the failures of the two idiots.
In the next election a new guy ran and CRUSHED the two old coots. He called me
when he won and thanked me for showing it was possible. Lots of my friends had
tried to get me to run...
