Sounds like power steering to me. Are you holding it at the limit (i.e. as far as it will turn)? If so, STOP. Turn it until your hear the noise and then back off a little. If you keep it at the limit too long, you will blow the pressure lines, ruin the pump and possibly damage the rack. Donald H.
