You wrote <<10W40>> There was a warning a few years ago about the additives needed to make the oil perform as stated at 10 and 40 - they said the gap was too wide and the additives needed too great - is that not a problem with MCs?

The owners manual has a chart like they all do. Theres no 5w40 listed but 10w40 is listed for all the temp ranges I'm likely to run at... Its a Japanese bike remeber and 10w40 has been the standard in those for years... -Curt --- On Sat, 9/13/08, ernest breakfield <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: From: ernest breakfield <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: Motorcycle oil To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], "Mercedes Discussion List" <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008, 12:01 AM what does the owners manual call for? any reason you wouldn't use that? at the very least, i make sure to use an oil of the grade that's specified, and only use SG (not higher!) rated oil in my moto. yes, it means i have different oil in the house for the J**p, the 300D and the moto, but that's a lot less inconvenient than dealing with any oil-related engine failures. cheers! e Curt Raymond wrote: Its too quiet today, this should stir things up... I'm in process changing the oil in my Kawasaki 454LTD. I'm gonna fill it with Mobil 1 5w40 "Turbo Diesel Truck". LT Don's been using 15w50 in his. I figure the TDT is at least as good as the 10w40 I've been using and possibly better. Its not an "energy conserving" labeled oil so I *shouldn't* (scary word) have trouble with the bike's wet clutch. If this works out my Honda will get the same treatment at the next change and I'll only stock 2 oils (5w40 for the cars and motorcycles, 10w30 for the pickup and small equipment, tractor, snowblower, etc) instead of 3. Need to find the regional distributor for Mobil 1 and see about a volume discount. I buy 30 or so quarts a year... The guy at Autozone looks at me like I'm crazy when I ask for a discount. One of these times I need to get ugly about it. "look bub, I've bought 30 quarts of this stuff in the last 12 months..." -Curt _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
