How much OU paying their football coach? Here in SC they just fired the coach and I think he still gets $3.5M to walk away.
College coaching contracts are totally one-sided, because the people on one side of the deal aren't spending their own money, and the taxpayers who foot the bill don't have any recourse. If a coach gets a better offer, he leaves, and nobody says boo about it. If the school wants a new coach, the old one gets the balance of his contract paid anyway. I remember one time Michigan State recruited the Steelers' defensive coordinator. The Steelers' sued MSU for tortuous interference, and MSU paid them 1/2 million or something (in 1983 dollars). Years later, LSU enticed MSU's coach (a different guy) into leaving while under contract. Did MSU try to enforce the contract, or sue LSU? Nope, college contracts are never enforced against the employee. "we're sorry you decide to leave, have a great life".
