The only new car I ever bought, I was making less than 10k a year as a part time student and full time pizza delivery driver. Car was $5k, 12 months' mileage reimbursements were about $3k. A year later I got out of pizza and went to school full time (paid with loans instead of working) owing about $2k on a one year old car with 52,000 miles on it. Only time in my life I didn't pay cash for a car.
