I have had two of these, both 87's and in great shape.

One was black on black with 114K I bought for 4k about 4 years ago. Drove it for a year and the neighbor down the street offered me 6K for it, so I sold it.

Other was smoke silver with maroon interior, very nice as well with 158K on it. I bought it for $1500 as a winter car a few years ago, sold it for $3100 to the first guy who looked at it when I bought my e320 last year.

I have seen quite a few on Craig's list in NY for 2K range, but their mileage is higher. Not sure where you are, but rust is an issue here and can affect the price quite a bit.

With more miles, you are probably looking at valve seals at some point. Personally, I always wanted the 560, mostly for the heated seat feature usually not found on the 420.

Subject: [MBZ] 1987 420SEL for sale

I'm looking at a 1987 420SEL - 103Kmi, everything works, little to no rust.
Timing chain changed, oil changed often, new radiator.

What are the issues on these particular cars? I've only owned diesel MBs.

Also, the guy wants $4k. Reasonable, or 2x reasonable?
