Well stated and I agree completely. Another reason is that certain items just 
aren't worth doing if it's going to turn into an ordeal.

When I had my 300D, I changed the trans fluid once which was quite enough. 
Red fluid on me, on my clothes and the driveway with the car up on stands which 
of course meant dragging the jack out and lifting both sides first. And then 
there was the one time I changed the fuel filter on one of the 190Es. The 
damned thing is located, with the pump, under a panel forward of the LR wheel. 
Multiple wrenches required plus pinching off the lines (almost, as it turned 
out) 
and then trying to avoid the gas running down my arms.

I vowed after those two projects that somebody else would be taking care of 
them in the future. I've had a bit of experience disassembling entire cars for 
restoration and putting them back together 4-5 years later but some stuff I 
just won't do anymore.
